Marie Osmond Shows Off 50-lb Weight Loss And Tells Fans: ‘Food Is Not My Enemy Anymore’
January 26, 2023 by Maria Pierides
Marie Osmond just opened up about her incredible 50-lb weight loss transformation in a candid new interview with Fox News Digital. Although celebrity weight loss transformations are always inspiring to read, what’s even more inspiring is finding out that the weight has stayed off, which is exactly what happened in Osmond’s case, as the 63-year-old singer confirmed that she has kept the weight off for 15 years after discovering Nutrisystem in 2007 and *never* going back! Wow!
The legendary Donny & Marie star, who slimmed down from a size 14 to a size 4, detailed how being overweight negatively impacted her life both mentally and physically, as it stopped her from “being active” with her children and grandchildren. She revealed that losing weight has allowed her to live her life as fully as possible and do things with her family that she could never have done when she was 50-lb heavier.
“At this stage of my life, I can tell you that weight ages you,” the “Paper Roses” hitmaker told Fox News Digital. “It also takes away the joy out of being active with your children and grandchildren. It takes away your health, even mentally. It’s not healthy for you. And when you hear the world saying, ‘Love me however I am,’ I think you love yourself to be the best version of you… so that you can live your fullest, most beautiful life. That’s why I have continued this.”
“I would never go back to who I was,” the “Meet Me In Montana” singer continued, adding that losing weight has given her so much “energy” to do things she never dreamed of, both professionally and personally! “My last album, my current album, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard. I’m 63. That’s stupid, right? Never could I have done that without the energy I have,” she confessed. “And I just got off tour, the best, fun tour I’ve done. I just spent Disney World with my eight grandchildren. My 23-year-old son goes, ‘Mom, let’s shut down the park.’ Never could I have done that with 50 pounds on me.”
And speaking of her son, who is one of eight, Osmond confessed that her initial weight loss journey was actually encouraged by her eldest son, who confronted his mother on behalf of all of his siblings about losing weight, as they feared that they could “lose” her. “My son, the oldest, came on behalf of all the kids,” Osmond recalled. “I was getting divorced and he goes, ‘Mom, we’re gonna lose you. You’re gonna die. You need to lose weight.’ That’s a really tough one. And women in my family don’t live long because of heart disease and weight. And so, it was kind of a wake-up — a big, scary wake-up call. They said, ‘Mom, you’re all we have.’ So that was kind of my a-ha [moment]. And then it was like, ‘How am I going to do this?'”
The “There’s No Stopping Your Heart” crooner has made no secret of her previous poor relationship with food, as she confessed that she was forced to “starve” when she was a teenager and working with the Osmonds, which understandably contributed to her unhealthy relationship with food. She previously told Fox News Digital that she would “literally starve” herself “for three days before taping” by drinking lemon water and cayenne pepper with maple syrup, although she confessed that this unhealthy system to losing weight became more difficult as she got older.
However, it was when she wanted to lose weight while competing on Dancing with the Stars back in 2007 that her new relationship with food started. She began her journey with Nutrisystem, the personalized meal delivery program, and learned about disciplined eating such as watching what she ate and portion control, which changed her outlook forever.
“I call it ‘Dancing with the Starved,'” Osmond quipped, recalling her time on the show which her brother Donny Osmond, 65, was also a part of two years later. “Fifty pounds overweight and spandex was not beautiful,” she continued. “And so, I went on Nutrisystem. It literally was my last-ditch effort. And I learned for the first time in my life that food was not the enemy.”
Osmond went on to say that she “lost at least 10 pounds a month,” when she began her Nutrisystem journey, adding, “That’s a dress size. And within four months, I was down to my weight. And I couldn’t believe that body was still inside me.” The mom-of-eight insisted she was able to stick to it for so many years because “it’s not a diet” and has changed her once toxic but now healthy relationship with food.
Osmond Talks Nutrisystem Complete 55 PlanTo prove just how supportive she is of the program which she credits for her 50-lb weight loss, the long-time Nutrisystem ambassador has now helped create Complete 55, a brand new personalized plan designed for women over the age of 55 that are struggling with their weight due to the menopause. “When you hit 55, we’re talking the mean, terrible M – it’s not Marie, it’s menopause,” she joked.
“It’s no secret that as women our bodies change as we get older, especially as we go through menopause, and it’s not as easy to lose weight,” the “Read My Lips” singer said in a press release. “What worked before might not work anymore. That’s why I teamed up with the experts at Nutrisystem to create their newest plan, Complete 55.” She added: “Nutrisystem worked for me and helped me lose 50 pounds sixteen years ago. But it’s not just about weight loss. It’s about weight management and learning proper nutrition for a lifetime of health and wellness. Nutrisystem Complete 55 helps teach women how to do that.”
According to the press release, Complete 55 “takes into account a woman’s unique metabolism, age, nutritional needs and activity level” and ensures “women get the right amount of protein” and helps them “burn harmful belly fat by front-loading carbohydrates in the daytime when they are better used for energy rather than stored as fat.”
