Mariska Hargitay just revealed she suffered a major health scare this week. The star of long-running crime drama “Law and Order: SVU” sustained multiple injuries to her legs, as she recently shared on her Instagram account.
The 57-year-old actress even had to go to the hospital following the accident, which sparked much attention on social media.
Hargitay shared a photo of herself outside of a hospital wearing a knee brace on one leg and ankle boot on another.
“#ThatFeelingWhen, you go to the doctor, get an MRI and find out that you have a broken knee, a hairline fracture in your ankle, and a torn ligament," she captioned the post. "It's always a good idea to go to the doctor. Immediately. #ListenToYourBody #TrustTheExperts #StayStrong #InOtherKneeNews #BustingPerpsWithBustedKnees #BraceYourself #NotTheBeesKnees #TheQueenBeesKnees.”
Fortunately, Hargitay did not need surgery for her injuries, as she clarified in the post.
We can see from the photo that Hargitay had gone to New York’s Hospital for Special Surgery, which is rated as the number one hospital for orthopedics in the United States. It was nice to see that the actress was in good care!
Hargitay has not revealed how she sustained her injuries, but she did add in her Instagram, “ Just so you know this is did Not happen at work [sic].”
Had she not clarified, fans would have probably assumed she did sustain the injury during filming “Law and Order: SVU,” as her character, Captain Olivia Benson, is often chasing suspects in settings where accidents can easily happen.
Hargitay also made headlines this week for a more uplifting reason. A story shared on Today told of a young girl who thwarted a kidnapping and helped law enforcement find her attempted kidnapper - and the girl said that it was Hargitay’s character on “Law and Order: SVU” who inspired her actions.
Responding to the girl on her own Instagram account, Hargitay wrote, “I am so honored to be part of your incredible story. You are one BRAVE, Strong and Smart young woman.”
