It may be fall, but we’re still reliving some of last season’s best fashion moments.
Summer 2020 ushered in everything from biker shorts to sheer tanks, but the scarf worn as a top is one of our favorite daring trends. While the sexy, oblique-baring look was first popularized by singers like Beyoncé and Christina Aguilera, trendsetter Bella Hadid brought it back in full force when she hit the streets of NYC in a red polka-dotted scarf top.
Now, other celebs like Martha Hunt are proving that the nostalgic look is here to stay. Earlier this summer, the Victoria Secret supermodel nodded to the aughts when she wore the scarf top in an old-school way, pairing it with delicate, layered necklaces and dark-wash, low-rise jeans.
Her fans couldn’t get enough of the pic, and we can’t either. Check it out below!
Beyond the nostalgia factor we all love, the scarf top is a practical way to beat the heat, plus it stands out from the sea of tiny tanks plastered all over Instagram. That said, a tied-up square of silk or cotton isn’t always the most secure choice for a shirt, especially for those with larger chests. The good news is that it’s easy to prevent potential wardrobe malfunctions by simply layering fitted tube tops or strapless bras underneath your scarf.
And while we’re headed for colder weather, you can still prep for warm weather getaways with these scarves that are large (and opaque!) enough to double as tops. Bonus: even if you decide not to wear them, they’re pretty enough to style in other ways too!
