Fast food, especially favorites like McDonald’s chicken nuggets, is undeniably convenient and tasty, but it often comes with high calories, unhealthy fats, and additives that are not the best options for your health. While McDonald’s nuggets are a popular choice, there are healthier, lower-calorie options you can easily make at home.

Thomas (@thomasjwhitehead), a fat loss coach who has over 44K followers on TikTok, recently shared his version of homemade chicken nuggets that are perfect for “easy fat loss” and “taste so much better.” Check out all the details below!

Homemade chicken nugget recipe

Thomas first points out that just nine chicken nuggets from McDonalds are 400 calories, 19 grams of fat, and 22 grams of protein. Meanwhile, his version has 20 nuggets that contain the same amount of calories but have 7 grams of fat and 51 grams of protein. Sign us up!

Ingredients: 150g (cooked) chicken breast, egg yolk, 50g panko breadcrumbs

Secret herbs and spices: salt, pepper, paprika, medium peri rub, sage, ground ginger, garlic powder, Fajita season packet mix, cayenne pepper

Instructions: Cut your chicken into small nugget pieces. Dip the nugget in egg and then coat with the breadcrumb mix until fully covered. Air-fry or even your chicken nugget for 15-20 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius. Enjoy!

The bottom line

This recipe uses real chicken breast, unlike many fast-food nuggets that contain fillers, preservatives, and additives. By air-frying instead of deep-frying, these homemade nuggets contain less unhealthy fat and fewer calories.

The spices and seasonings add flavor and various health benefits while cutting out artificial flavors and excess sodium found in fast food options.
