McDonald’s is reiterating their company values in the wake of a controversy surrounding their HR department.

In November, the fast food chain fired David Fairhurst, its former Global Chief People Officer, and replaced him with Heidi Capozzi in April. Although the reason for Fairhurst’s replacement was not released at the time, according to Business Insider, he was “‘with cause’ after making women at the company uncomfortable.”

In light of this controversy, the company is restating their values.

According to Business Insider, despite being the head of HR, Fairhurst created several HR problems.

The article explains,"Fairhurst would regularly drink with a group of other HR staffers, which included women significantly subordinate to him at the company."

A source told the outlet about the company culture and HR team: "The inmates were running the asylum."

The source continued, "It was no secret that this was a serious problem."

With this in mind, McDonald's emphasis on a return to company values makes sense. During a recent online event with employees, Capozzi explained how these values will be further implemented into the training process for all employees.

The article adds that Capozzi specifically mentioned "everyone from our corporate staff to our restaurant crews."

She explained, "We will be updating performance management, so that as part of our year-end process, we are evaluating against priorities and objectives that were accomplished, but also how that work was accomplished according to our values."
