McDonald’s is facing backlash from fans yet again because of their prices. This time, a viral TikTok from @TopherOlive shows a burger, large order of fries, and a large soft drink… for $16! “It’s crazy!” the user narrates. The video was originally posted in December of last year, but has resurfaced after McDonald’s announced an increase in revenue due to “strategic” hikes in menu prices. And many fast food fans are not pleased with these higher prices, with many customers writing off the chain, saying “it’s definitely not worth it.”

Idaho man is charged $16 for McDonald’s meal

In @TopherOlive’s viral TikTok, he shows viewers what he ordered: a burger sandwich, a large order of fries, and a large soft drink. He then pans over to his receipt, showing a whopping $16 charge for the meal. “So, I get there’s a labor shortage, I get there’s wage increases and a number of other things, but $16?” he narrates. “$16 for a burger, a large fry and a drink? It’s just crazy!”

McDonald's hikes menu prices

In a recent earnings call with investors, McDonald's CFO Ian Borden confirmed that by the end of the year, the price of menu items will have increased by 10% since the start of the year, which explains the shocking prices that customers like @TopherOlive are being charged. And this TikToker isn't the only one experiencing absurdly high prices. One Connecticut branch charged $18 for a Big Mac combo meal, which consists of a Big Mac, medium order of fries, and medium soft drink.

In 2022, McDonald’s net income rose from $1.9B to $2.3B, and much of that increase can be attributed to menu price increases. And it looks like the fast food giant could be on track for the same increase in income, as menu prices don’t seem to be going down.

Customers are furious over high McDonald's prices

In the comment section of @TopherOlive's viral TikTok, users shared their grievances with the fast food chain. "It's officially not convenient or affordable anymore. You might as well go to the store and buy hamburger meat," one user commented.

"McDonald's has been expensive for years now," another user added. "Definitely not worth it."

Another customer wrote, "I make a lot more of my own food these days because of stuff like this. I'm so sick of fast food prices."

Other users agreed, saying they would be taking their business elsewhere: "Sit down restaurant it is for that price!" one customer wrote. "Yeah right…find a local burger joint. I would never…" another added.

"Companies know they can get these prices now so they'll never go back," one person added. If the prices won’t go down, at least maybe they'll stop going up.
