Despite the potential health consequences of eating too many of them, there’s no denying that Big Macs are one of the most delicious options on the McDonald’s menu. Who doesn’t love those all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions on a sesame seed bun?! The only thing we don’t love about this iconic burger is the price.
However, one McDoanld’s worker recently shared some tips with the Sun about how you can save a significant amount of money on your Big Mac by hacking the menu. He also shared a McNugget pointer. With fast food costs on the rise (hello, $7 Taco Bell burrito!), we’ll take any tips we can get!
Order a Big Mac for cheap
The key to saving money on your Big Mac is to combine other menu items, the employee told the Sun. The real secret is to order two double cheeseburgers with Big Mac sauce. Who knew?!
"For building off the menu, if you were to order two double cheeseburgers and ask for them to have Big Mac sauce and lettuce on them, that’s actually cheaper than buying a Big Mac," he says.
But here's the real kicker: you'll actually get more meat than a Big Mac while saving your money. "You’re basically getting the same thing but with two extra bits of meat on it." Incredible!
McDonald's chicken nugget hack
In addition to getting more bang for your buck in the Big Mac department, the McDonald's insider also told the Sun a special hack for getting some extra nuggets. If you come in with a pal, you may want to split a box rather than ordering your own.
"This one is probably more well known," he said, "but loads of people will come through in a pair and order either two six chicken nuggets meals or two nine nugget meals, but it’s cheaper in both cases to get one 20 nuggets—which you could ask to be split over two boxes if you wanted—two [fries] and two drinks."
Ultimately, he says "it's cheaper than two six nugget meals and you end up getting eight more nuggets." The more you know!
Just remember to eat fast food in moderation—especially all those unhealthy French fries.
