Why You Should Think Twice About Ordering McDonald’s French Fries With ‘No Salt’

The debate over whether you should order French fries with “no salt” at McDonald’s is heating up again!

In case you missed it, the topic of how fries are prepared at the fast food chain when they’re requested like this has been a controversial one for some time. Workers say that it causes too much of a hassle in the kitchen and can even lead to burns because of how they’re forced to pour the fries directly from the deep fry basket into the teeny tiny fry sleeves. Ouch!

Workers explained on Quora and other internet forums that if what you really want is “fresh” fries, you should just ask for them! Apparently, that works better for how their prep lines function.

But employees argue that because of dietary restrictions and other health concerns they *need* to be able to ask for McDonald’s fries without any added salt. Which is absolutely understandable!

The reason we’re talking about all of this again (and not the chemicals their fries contain) is because a McDonald’s worker just posted a video of what she does when customers order unsalted fries at the fast food restaurant.

The TikTok user @haleylehane who identified herself as an employee of the fast food chain, shared the clip to the platform, explaining exactly how she handles this request from diners–by “purposely leaving fries above the oil after they’re done in case someone asks for no salt fried when they just want fresh fries.” Yikes!

The video went viral, leading to what Haley described as countless negative comments from customers who didn’t understand that she was just “joking” in the post. She was forced to remove the original video and post an “explanation” of the joke, (as well as provide more color as to why why “no-salt” fries are such a headache from a worker’s perspective). She even showed off her own personal burn mark battle scars!

“The reason I made that video, as a joke, was to just get the point across that you can order ‘fresh fries’ if you want them, or you can order ‘light salt.'”

Well–if there’s a way for customers to get what they want while simultaneously making employees’ lives easier, we are all for it!
