McDonald’s Just Added The Most Insane Item To It’s Menu–Vegetarians Are Freaking Out!

McDonald’s is testing a “groundbreaking” new plant-based lunch meat in China!

The company added “OmniPork” the plant-based luncheon meat to six menu items at McDonald’s and McCafes in Hong Kong and Macau. More great news in a year of meatless fast food innovation!

Vegetarians will be thrilled to learn of this major step, one that OmniFoods CEO and co-founder David Yeung says is "the most monumental plant-based protein collaboration’ with a quick service restaurant."

Earlier this year, the company tested a "P.L.T." burger in Canada using patties made by Beyond Meat, but the company has yet to offer any plant-based options in the U.S.

The fast food juggernaut launched the meatless option from OmniFoods earlier this month. That means that vegetariants can walk into McDonald’s and order OmniPork fried with scrambled eggs in a burger; or a jumbo breakfast with pancakes, scrambled eggs, English muffins and a hash brown. You could also order the OmniPork with a fried egg and twisty pasta soup. Yum!

At McCafe, the meatless menu options include OmniPork Luncheon with egg and cheese in a toastie, and an egg mayonnaise in a ciabatta.

If McDonald's does decide to join the meatless meat race stateside, they will be joining the likes of Jack in the Box, which is testing the plant-based "Unchicken" sandwiches, and Burger King with it's meatless Impossible Whopper.
