McDonald’s has recently announced some exciting changes to their stores–including adding menu items that were cut due to coronavirus.
During a virtual Evercore ISI investor conference, the fast food chain’s CEO Chris Kempczinski explained that they are planning to bring back some menu items as stores begin to reopen their dining rooms.
However, that does not mean all of your favorite menu items will be making a return.
Kempczinski explained, "We will certainly add things back to the menu. Whether it goes all the way back to where we were pre-Covid, I think that’s probably unlikely."
Before you get too disappointed, Kempczinski does have some exciting news.
"But I think that it’s equally unlikely that we’ll stay with the current menu because the customer is looking for a broader array of menu items than what we currently have," he explained.
For US locations, the decision will be left up to Joe Erlinger, McDonald's US President.
"In the US, this is going to be up to Joe Erlinger, our US president, working with the local owner-operators there to figure out the right timing to go do this," Kempczinski explained.
This also means that introducing new menu items will be delayed.
According to CNBC, McDonald’s is putting a hold on their Crispy Chicken Sandwich that was made to rival Chick-fil-A and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.
However, Kempczinski said that it's on hold now: "We certainly believe that there’s a big opportunity for us in chicken, but wasn’t the right time to go after that."
