Raw Meat Recall
According to FSIS, non-food grade mineral seal oil had been applied to food contact surfaces at the manufacturer, but had not made direct contact with meat products. However, the recall came after four separate complaints from restaurants citing reports of a chemical taste in the meat products. The affected products were shipped to restaurants in New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
The affected meats were produced between Nov. 26th 2023 through Feb. 16th 2024, and contain various weights of meat cuts and ground meat. The products have Julian dates of 330-365 (Nov. 26-Dec. 31) and 1-47 (Jan. 1-Feb. 16) printed on the packaging. They also bear the number EST. 569 inside of the USDA mark of inspection.
FSIS encourages restaurants to check their refrigerators and freezers to be sure that they do not have any stores of the contaminated product. Though there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of the products, negative bodily reactions have not been ruled out.
