Prince Harry‘s memoir Spare may have dropped a lot of bombshells – but so has an explosive new book about the Beckhams written by royal author Tom Bower!
The book The House of Beckham: Money, Sex and Power explores David and Victoria Beckham‘s relationship with each other, as well as their relationships with other celebrities. And what Bower wrote about Victoria’s friendship with Meghan Markle was particularly interesting…
Meghan Markle Reportedly Believed She Was 'Higher In Social Ranking' Than Victoria Beckham
According to Bower, the former Suits actress, 42, initially "put on airs" around Posh Spice, who turned 50 just a few months ago, because she felt she was higher in social ranking due to her status as a royal.
"In Meghan's celebrity world, ranking depended on wealth and fame," Bower explained. "As a seasoned operator, Meghan deluded herself that her status in the royal family placed her above Victoria in the social pecking order." And when she found out the truth, she was reportedly not too happy about it!
"She was irritated to discover that the Beckhams had considerably more wealth than herself," Bower continued. "They owned five homes, had constant access to private jets, invitations to sail on yachts and much more money. And she was soon to be a duchess."
Despite the American Riviera Orchard founder's "deluded" thoughts about her status, the Beckhams reportedly made an effort with her at the time – partly because of how close they were to Prince William and Prince Harry.
Once Meghan became a resident at Kensington Palace, Bower claimed that "a member of Victoria's staff offered Harry's fiancée advice on the best facials and hairdressing in London."
Did Meghan Markle Take Advantage Of Her Friendship With The Beckhams?
Once Meghan was friendly with Victoria, she reportedly tried to use this to her advantage and ask the Spice-Girl-turned-fashion-designer for some free dresses and accessories. But Bower claimed that the agreement was very one-sided, and Beckham didn't benefit from it in the slightest!
"Victoria agreed to provide a coat, dress, boots and a handbag worth £6,000 to Meghan for the royal family's traditional Christmas Day parade in Sandringham," Bower wrote, in reference to the above look, adding: "Later, Meghan wore a Beckham custom-made pregnancy outfit and a white coat and dress for a service in Westminster Abbey." However, Bower said "the financial benefit was nil," adding: "The only success in 2019 was a £1,400 handbag that had been displayed by Meghan."
And that's not all! Bower also claimed that Meghan stayed in David and Victoria's Beverly Hills residence during a private trip to Los Angeles. "Her excuse was to avoid the paparazzi," the Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors author wrote. "At no cost, all her needs were secretly provided for by the Beckhams' staff. If there was a hint that Meghan was taking advantage of her new status, the Beckhams pushed their gripes aside."
