Meghan Markle just opened up about what it’s really like to be the “most trolled person in the entire world,” and it is so heartbreaking to hear about what the royal has had to go through. The Duchess of Sussex and her husband appeared on the podcast Teenager Therapy, where she recounted her difficult journey.
Speaking to the hosts of the podcast, five seniors at a high school in Anaheim, California, Markle discussed the toll social media can take on your mental health.
She said, “Yes [social media is] a great way to connect, but it also ends up being a place where there's a lot of disconnection. I can speak personally too, I’m told that in 2019 I was the most trolled person in the entire world, male or female.”
“I don’t care if you’re 15 or you’re 25, if people are saying things about you that aren’t true, what that does to your mental and emotional health is so damaging.”
Markle explained that being trolled can have an impact on your mental health, particularly if people are saying false things about you on social media.
Now, the 39-year-old royal is using her experience to advocate against the dangers of social media and the importance of caring for mental health issues. She and Prince Harry said they hoped to make it clear that vulnerability is a sign of strength, and to encourage others to see it the same way.
