Almost four years later, secrets about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding are still coming out! And the one that was just released in a brand new book might be the juiciest one yet, as it involves something that Meghan unexpectedly said to Prince Charles! This makes the arguments Kate Middleton and Meghan allegedly had about Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress seem tame in comparison!

According to Robert Hardman’s new book, Queen of Our Times: The Life of Queen Elizabeth II, the Prince of Wales asked his then future daughter-in-law if he could walk her down the aisle of St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on her wedding day on May 19th, 2018, as her father Thomas Markle was no longer able to attend. And while Meghan did agree to it – as we remember witnessing from our TV screens – she did apparently want to do it on her own terms!

"Feeling for his future daughter-in-law, the Prince of Wales offered to step in, saying he would be honored to escort Meghan up the aisle of St George’s Chapel to the altar," Hardman wrote. However Meghan apparently had a counter-suggestion, and asked the future King of England a very important four-worded question: "Can we meet halfway?"

We remember watching Meghan float down the aisle in her Givenchy wedding dress by Clare Waight Keller on her own, to be joined by Prince Charles in the middle of the aisle; and now we know why! Hardman, via an article he wrote for The Daily Mail, went on to suggest that Meghan's request "was an indicator that this was no blushing bride, but a confident, independent woman determined to make a grand entrance on her own." And we couldn’t agree more!

However, Prince Charles' request to walk Meghan down the aisle was apparently Prince Harry's idea all along, which he mentioned in a documentary to mark his father's 70th birthday. "I asked him to and I think he knew it was coming and he immediately said ‘Yes, of course, I’ll do whatever Meghan needs, and I’m here to support you,'" the Duke of Sussex said at the time.

"For him that’s a fantastic opportunity to step up and be that support, and you know he’s our father so of course he’s going to be there for us. I was very grateful for him to be able to do that," Harry added.
