Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have just signed a deal with Netflix–yes, the company that makes the not-so-flattering royal series “The Crown.” We wonder what the Queen has to say about this!
The pair just signed a “megawatt” producing deal with the TV platform just six months after departing from the family, the NYTimes and other outlets report this week. Just when we thought things couldn’t get more strange!
While Harry and Meghan have little producing experience, the TV platform with 193 million subscribers is said to have paid out a major sum for the deal. Enough that the pair were just able to pay off the debt they owed British taxpayers for their Frogmore renovation! Aka, it wasn’t
The couple, who recently settled into a $14M mansion in Montecito, California, had reportedly been seeking “somewhere in the neighborhood of $100M” for the production deal.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who also signed a speaking deal with New York-based Harry Walker agency, have founded production company (name pending) and signed the multiyear deal with Netflix. Under the deal, they will make documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming.

The pair undoubtedly have a huge global platform and name recognition--and they need something to do since they won't be doing many royal engagements anymore.
The Times reports that Harry and Meghan "may appear on camera" although her rep confirmed that she has no plans to return to acting, a la her last gig on the cable drama “Suits” in 2018.

The couple also released a statement announcing the news. “Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope. As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us.”
Netflix’s “unprecedented reach will help us share impactful content that unlocks action,” they added. Wow!
