We’ve heard so much about what Prince Harry and Meghan Markle think about other members of the royal family – and the institution as a whole – in their controversial Netflix Harry & Meghan docuseries, so it’s interesting to hear what the other side have to say about them! Especially as we rarely get to hear what the royal family really think due to their longstanding “never complain, never explain” tradition.

Gyles Brandreth Reveals Prince Harry And Meghan's Secret Nickname

Royal commentator and friend of the royals Gyles Brandreth just revealed a little secret about the royal family – in particular, what the staff at Buckingham Palace call Prince Harry, 38, and Meghan, 41, when they’re not around!

In his book about the late monarch, Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait, Brandreth said: "Whenever the names of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex come up in court circles, courtiers flinch and change the subject or refer to them as 'persons who live overseas.'"

Queen Elizabeth II Meghan Markle Prince Harry

And actual members of the royal family reportedly don’t have much kinder words to say about the Sussexes either! "If Harry and Meghan are mentioned to members of the royal Family, they simply smile briefly and say 'we wish them all the best' and nothing else." Wow – talk about frosty!

The Queen May Not Have Disapproved Of The Netflix Docuseries After All

Brandreth also hinted that the late Queen Elizabeth II may not have disapproved of their Netflix docuseries as much as other members of the royal family appear to have done, as he said she was "always more concerned for Harry’s well-being than about 'this television nonsense.'" He also went on to say that the late monarch wasn’t offended by her grandson's move to America either, as she simply wanted him to "find his feet" and "find really useful things to do."

Brandreth Calls Meghan's Curtsy Recollection 'Embarrassing'

Do we think that filming a six-part docuseries and writing a tell-all bombshell memoir about the royal family counts as 'really useful?' We’ll leave that up to you, although we don’t think that the late Queen would have enjoyed watching Meghan mock the fact that she had to curtsy to her when they met for the first time, which still remains one of the most controversial parts of the entire docuseries.

"It's embarrassing, because it is mocking – and nobody curtsies to the Queen like that, and nobody would have advised her to do it that way," Brandreth previously said on TalkTV. "To do this sort of mocking thing is uncomfortable, but it is a cultural difference. It's like you would do a curtsy if you were playing in Snow White," he added.
