Meghan Markle Reacts To Being Called A ‘Diva’ On Her Podcast: ‘How Could You?’

Mariah Carey just told Meghan Markle that she was a “diva” in the second episode of her Archetypes podcast on Spotify, which Meghan confessed was a remark she “didn’t see coming!” But how did the Duchess of Sussex react to the label given to her by one of the biggest (and often self-proclaimed) divas in the music business?

“You give us diva moments sometimes Meghan,” the 53-year-old “We Belong Together” singer unapologetically told the Duchess, 41, which appeared to take her by surprise. “I do?” Meghan questioned. “What kind of diva moments do I give you?” she asked, which Mariah dutifully responded to, saying it was mainly down to her “look.” Interesting!

Later on in the podcast, the mom-of-two went on to address the singer’s comment further, telling listeners how it definitely took her by surprise. “I didn’t see that coming,” Meghan recalled. “But that aside, it [the interview with Carey] was all going swimmingly, I mean really well. Until that moment happened, which I don’t know about you, but it stopped me in my tracks… when she called me a diva!”

“You couldn’t see me, obviously, but I started to sweat a little bit,” Meghan continued. “I started squirming in my chair in this quiet revolt, like, wait, wait, no, what? How? But? How could you? That’s not true, that’s not… Why would you say that? My mind genuinely was just spinning with what nonsense she must have read or clicked on to make her say that. I just kept thinking, in that moment, was my girl crush coming to a quick demise? Does she actually not see me?”

However, Mariah made sure to reiterate to her fans that her “diva” remark was nothing but complimentary. Sharing a link to the episode on her Twitter account, Mariah wrote: “Really enjoyed talking to Duchess and Diva Meghan Markle about ‘The Duality of Diva’. Yes! I called her a diva, in the most fabulous, gorgeous, and empowering meaning of the word!!!”

Meghan also explained further along in the podcast that Mariah tried to explain her diva comment in a little more detail, as she could sense that she may not have taken it in the complimentary way it was intended. “When she said diva, she was talking about the way that I dress, the posture, the clothing, the quote-unquote, fabulousness as she sees it,” Meghan reiterated.
