Meghan Markle made a bold fashion statement by recreating one of Princess Diana’s most iconic looks.
The Duchess of Sussex took to Instagram Stories on Sunday to share glimpses of her outdoor festivities with her family, including her and Prince Harry’s 2 children: Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3.
In the clips, Meghan sported a purple Northwestern University crewneck and black sunglasses—an ensemble strikingly similar to one worn by Princess Diana in June 1996 while visiting Chicago. The late princess was famously photographed in a nearly identical purple Northwestern sweatshirt, also paired with black sunglasses.

In the iconic candid photo, Princess Diana was pictured having her keys in her mouth as she looked for something inside her purse.
Although Meghan has worn multiple outfits inspired by Princess Diana, social media has never been receptive to them—and many found this one particularly unsettling.
Comments included:
"I don’t care if she went there—we all know she is only doing it for attention. She wants to be another Diana, and she will NEVER be."
"Insufferable."
"She's such a poser; she's so irrelevant in life."
"Di was one of a kind—cannot compete with someone who died tragically young, so don’t even try."
"She’s so cringey."
"I don’t care that she went to Northwestern. She did it for attention. So desperate."
"She is a very sick individual."
"How pathetic."

Meghan Markle's Netflix Show
Meghan has recently been in the headlines because of her new Netflix series. The series had to be pushed back to March 4 due to the LA fires, and now she’s facing criticism that the show is unoriginal and is copying Pamela Anderson’s Cooking With Love program.
A TV insider told Page Six, “Nobody knows who [Meghan] really is. The world created this image of who they think she is.”
The insider added, “She doesn’t claim to be perfect. That’s what the gist of the show is—she’s just having fun.”
The released trailers of the series show her cooking with friends and gardening, and the source continued, “The show is really her being in her own space and doing her thing. It’s such a joyous show.”
