During their recent visit to Nigeria, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry embarked on a three-day tour that involved a variety of engagements, including school visits, meetings with locals, and a discussion on mental health. The Sussexes also took part in traditional dances as part of their itinerary.

During the final leg of their journey, the Suits alum, 42, had the opportunity to address an assembly of fifty distinguished women from the fields of Nigerian politics, culture, and philanthropy. The May 11th gathering served as a platform for a Women in Leadership panel discussion.

Markle stood out in a fiery, chic red midi dress by up-and-coming Nigerian designer Orire (see the pics here). She explained that the choice of her outfit and similar ones during her stay was a conscious effort to connect with her Nigerian heritage.

Markle conversed on stage with Mo Abudu, a media executive, and Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the director-general of the World Trade Organization, during the event. She wore her brunette tresses in an elegant, slicked-back updo.

The mom of two shimmered with the help of a sparkling delicate chain necklace and gold bracelet, and added open-toed stilettos to top it all off. As reported by People Magazine and Hello!, when asked about discovering her Nigerian ancestry, Markle alluded to her wardrobe selections for the trip.

"It has been a whirlwind 24 hours since we arrived," Markle said. The former Archetypes podcast host continued: "I very quickly got the memo that I need to wear more color so I can fit in with all of you in your incredible fashion!"

Markle recounted her experience of uncovering her Nigerian heritage through a genealogy test and having a conversation with her mother Doria Ragland about this newfound knowledge.

"Being African-American, part of it is really not knowing so much about your lineage or background, where you come from specifically," she said. "And it was exciting for both of us to discover more and understand what that really means.”

Just one day before, Markle wore another stylish get-up (above and below), composed of a radiant peach-colored maxi dress that perfectly accentuated her glow.

While visiting Lightway Academy in Abuja with her husband Harry on May 10th, the Duchess of Sussex imparted some words of wisdom to the schoolgirls and wore her Heidi Merrick maxi dress with summery sandals by Emme Parsons.

To accessorize, the style icon opted for a shimmering gold wristlet and matching statement earrings. As for her glam, the former actress wore her hair in an elegant low ponytail, styled into loose waves with tendrils framing the sides of her face.
