According to a royal expert and insider, Meghan Markle was apparently dissatisfied with her “cold” relationship with Kate Middleton while she was part of the royal family. Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams has shared his insights on the relationship between the Duchess of Sussex, 43, and other members of the royal family, both in the past and the present, according to Daily Express UK.
As Fitzwilliams dished to the outlet: “The relationship between Meghan and Catherine was cold or cool, putting it mildly.” He added: “Meghan only lasted about a year and a half as a senior working royal before they indicated that they were unhappy.” Fitzwilliams proposed that Markle offered her husband Prince Harry a way out of a situation he was already unhappy with within the royal family.
Meghan Markle Was Reportedly 'Unhappy' About Her 'Cold' Relationship with Kate Middleton During Her Time as a Royal, Expert Claims
This isn't the first occasion where there have been signs of a chilly or strained relationship between Markle and Princess Kate, 43. As Harry, 40, wrote in his 2023 memoir, Spare, Markle once asked the Princess of Wales to borrow her lip gloss, and Kate was "taken aback." Harry wrote: "Meg asked to borrow Kate's lip gloss. An American thing."
He went on: "Meg forgot hers, worried she needed some, and turned to Kate for help. Kate, taken aback, went into her handbag and reluctantly pulled out a small tube. Meg squeezed some onto her finger and applied it to her lips. Kate grimaced. Small clash of styles maybe."
In early 2020, Harry, 40, and Markle surprised the world by declaring their intention to step down from their positions as senior members of the royal family. The pair subsequently relocated to the United States, signifying a fresh start away from royal duties. Fitzwilliams expressed his views on the Suits star's fame as an actress before her marriage into the royal family.
"The fact she was so used to the red carpet and the audience it was thought she and Harry would be perfect for the role. She was, of course, deeply unhappy," he shared. Exploring the couple's widely covered royal departure, he clarified: "It all went very wrong, precisely why is still a matter for debate."

He advised exercising caution against drawing final conclusions. "I wouldn't put a specific reason behind it because Harry was unhappy, and I think Meghan provided the way out in a sense," he noted. The Sussexes exchanged vows on May 19, 2018, at St. George's Chapel in Windsor, England.
