When women reach a certain age, it can be really easy to get defeated by all the ways their bodies begin to change.

After all, over the age of 40, many people have a hard time losing weight, gaining muscle, keeping up their energy, etc. Still, aside from diet and exercise, there are other ways to keep up their metabolism and stay as healthy and fit as possible. Although there is no ‘magic pill’ that keeps aging bodies in tip-top shape, there are nutrients people can supplement for a beneficial boost. We spoke with health experts about two supplements that may help boost women’s energy and help them lose weight over the age of 40. Read more about them below.

1. Turmeric

Turmeric is a very powerful, natural-based supplement that might not directly impact weight loss, but can become a beneficial component in helping the body slim down safely when taken in addition to a balanced diet and consistent exercise. Registered dietitian Trista Best with Balance One notes that turmeric "can make an excellent addition to an existing weight loss regimen."

"This is primarily due to turmeric's anti-inflammatory capabilities," she continues. "Reducing inflammation in the body has an almost direct impact on preventing or reducing obesity and overall body weight. By cutting down inflammation in the body, your metabolism is better able to burn calories at an efficient rate."

2. CoQ10

With its complicated name, there's a chance you might not have heard about CoQ10, or if you have, you might not understand what it does. However, this supplement packs a lot of health benefits, including some that can help women over 40 boost their metabolism, as registered dietitian and women's health expert Lauren Manaker notes their bodies start to lose it with age.

"CoQ10 is a naturally occurring compound in the body that plays a vital role in energy production and cellular health," she explains. "As you age, your natural levels of CoQ10 decline, which can lead to lower energy levels and a slower metabolism. CoQ10 helps your cells convert food into energy. Additionally, CoQ10 is a powerful antioxidant, helping to combat oxidative stress and inflammation, aka two factors that can contribute to weight gain and make it harder to lose weight."

As with any supplement, you'll want to consult your doctor before taking a new one, as they may be able to give you clearer advice and can tell you just how much or how little you need to take of each one. Still, after taking them consistently, you might find that losing weight gets a bit easier, and you may feel a bit more upbeat and ready to take on your daily tasks.
