Michael Strahan’s front tooth gap is almost as famous as he is, so fans were left in shock last week when the GMA host shared that he had gotten the space closed, ridding his smile of its iconic appeal. The former football player turned television personality took to social media to show off his new grin, looking virtually unrecognizable. However, he later revealed that it was all just an April Fools joke.

On March 30, Strahan took to Twitter to share a video of the procedure that closed up his tooth gap, leaving him with a flawless smile. However, fans were shocked by the change, begging the television host to “change it back!” In the video, Strahan admitted that he has many people warn him not to fill the gap, but claimed it was something he’d wanted to do for some time.

In fact, Strahan revealed that the filling of this space was “50 years in the making,” before cutting to footage from the procedure. Strahan then showed off his new smile, grinning widely for the camera and sharing that he loved the new look. The GMA host tweeted, “I did it. #GoodbyeGap,” to accompany the video, garnering a slew of comments from fans in response.
However, Strahan later made an update on Instagram, sharing that the dentist procedure video was a joke and his iconic gap tooth grin was still very much present. In the second video, Strahan spoke behind a mask, saying he was surprised how many people were upset that he had changed his smile, before revealing his signature grin. “I just wanted to say...April fools! The gap is here to stay,” he exclaimed. “The gap is not going anywhere for a while, my momma likes it.”
Fans were visibility relieved in the comment section, with one writing, “Thank god!!! I was heartbroken,” and another sharing, “I totally fell for it and I was so bummed. So happy the gap is not gone.” Looks like people are pleased that the gap is here to stay!
