First off, in order to stay on top of your game, you have to take care of yourself first. One of the best ways to keep yourself vibrant and ready to take on the day is by following this motto: "treat yo'self." Here at SheFinds, we’re big believers in the power of pampering yourself, especially with your skincare. Taking care of your skin and creating the clearest complexion of your dreams is one of the best ways to keep your confidence levels high and happy.
As an editor-in-chief to one of the biggest fashion, beauty, and lifestyle magazines in the world, Michelle Lee is also a devoted skincare fanatic. And her major beauty tip is to give your skin the TLC it needs and deserves.
“Practice good skin care and use daily sun protection,” Lee said. “I didn’t get serious about sun care until I was in my 30s and I regret that I wasn’t better about it in my younger years. You can definitely reverse some of the damage, but being smart about it from the get-go is always a good idea.”
Ready to start creating Allure-approved looks? Then follow in Lee’s lead with her major fashion tip! When it comes to fashion, Lee is more of the adventurous type, and believes you should be, too. Instead of sticking to simple blacks and whites, give your style some edge with pops of colors, details, and embellishments.
“For fashion, don’t be afraid of color and patterns,” she said. “I always define my personal style as pretty-punky. I like a feminine dress with a tough jacket or shoe. Whatever your personal style may be, play with the dichotomy.”
How could we chat with one of the most powerful editors in the industry and not ask her for some career tips? Lee has not only excelled in her style and beauty but is also a prime example of finessing to the top. And what is the one thing she thinks every career-driven woman should know? The big numbers of business, of course.
“I’d love for more women to learn about business,” she said. “For many of us who work in creative fields, it’s easy to think that your life won’t revolve around numbers and finance, but the higher you go, the more you need to know about business. So I always encourage young people, no matter what field they’re in, to read books or take courses.”
One of her other girl boss commandments is to keep your head in the game and to educate yourself on all of the proper knowledge you need to strive.
“I’d say: hustle,” she said. “I taught myself a lot about the newly evolving media industry, especially as it relates to business and tech. Editors these days need to understand print, digital, social, video, branded content, so many things. If you can become a multimedia Jack- or Jill-of-all-trades, you’ll be better equipped for the modern media industry. And embrace all your creativity! People used to pigeonhole themselves as ‘just a words’ person or ‘just a visual’ person or left or right brain. There’s no need to label yourself and limit yourself these days. You can be all of those things!”
