The “Becoming” author revealed on her Spotify podcast “The Michelle Obama Podcast” that she and the President broke down in tears after watching their firstborn leave for college.
The couple took their daughter to lunch before leaving the freshman off at Harvard. She really paints a heartbreaking scene here that any of us parents can relate to!

“That moment when she left the restaurant and we got into our car to go to the airport, we tried to hold it in,” she revealed on the September 16 episode.
“Then, I heard Barack over on the side just [*sniffs*]. Allen, his Secret Service agent, passed a handkerchief back to him and he was like, ‘thanks, man.'”

And it wasn't just the First Dad who needed to wipe away the tears--Michelle explained that later in the car they were both weeping. Guys, it's going to be okay!
"There was just something about actually leaving her — even though she had been to sleep away camp, and had traveled," she explained. That baby is now gone." OMG, so sad!

Michelle said that she Barack “were better” when it came to dropping off Sasha, 19, at the University of Michigan. Unfortunately due to the COVID-19, both first daughters are back home in Washington, DC.
Michelle has stated previously that she and Barack tried to keep their daughters' childhoods as "normal" as possible, despite their position as world leaders and the fact that Secret Service is always standing by. We love hearing these personal anecdotes about the family! Keep sharing, Michelle!
