We Never Expected To See Skirts This Short—This Celebrity ‘Micro’ Trend Is Unreal!

Micro skirts are exactly what they sound like (for those who may not remember them taking over 90s and Y2k fashion eras), they’re mini skirts that are as short as possible, and a resurfaced trend that it seems like everyone has worn or is going to! So far, we’ve spotted Gen-Z A-listers like Lily-Rose Depp, Olivia Rodrigo and Hailey Bieber rocking the trend. Even the timelessly radiant Nicole Kidman recently got on-board! Although this trend certainly had a hold on past style eras, these cuts seem to be even shorter now than ever before, as you’ll see. Here is a fun list of the four stars and the (somewhat different but also similar) ways they all styled their micro skirts.

Lily-Rose Depp

As this trend swept across our Instagram feeds last year in the fall, Depp, 22, was a notable starlet welcoming the fad. For a photoshoot for Interview Magazine, the actress posed in a very revealing plaid mini-skirt, barely held together with thin, skimpy black strings. She went for a sexy, perhaps schoolgirl or Velma-from-Scooby-Doo inspired look complete with a cropped orange turtleneck top, scarlet knee-high socks and silver heels. This look brings us back!

Olivia Rodrigo

The “driver’s license” hitmaker, 19, was next to don the trend with her pleated, camouflage micro skirt, which she paired with a color-blocked, long sleeved top in a similar cut to Depp’s. This mix-matching of patterns and textures is incredibly 90s-esque, and she further paid homage to past fashion eras with sky-high, black platform Marc Jacobs boots from the “Heaven” diffusion line. This pic, in which she’s seen in an ab and leg baring ensemble had us wondering, could it have been taken in 1992 rather than 2022? From the patterns to the specific shoe choice, it looks like a relic of that time.

Hailey Bieber 

This supermodel/ style icon, 25, is a known lover of the Italian high fashion brand, Miu Miu, which just showcased their spring/ summer 2022 collection filled with nostalgic, micro mini skirts. You know if Bieber wears a trend it won’t be going anywhere anytime soon! For her look for the brand’s latest campaign, Bieber wore a belted, blue, pleated micro skirt in a cut like Rodrigo’s. Hers was paired with a matching belted top and a tan structured jacket over it. This look, like the others we’ve seen showed off her epic legs and abs, but even more so! Long live early aughts style.

Nicole Kidman

The Being the Ricardos star, 54, also just rocked a Miu Miu mini skirt and crop top pairing while she graced Vanity Fair’s 28th “Hollywood” cover. Kidman’s (almost identical to Bieber’s) featured a blue-gray, pleated pattern which she wore with pointed-toe brown-and-white oxfords and matching gray socks. With both her crop top and super-short bottom, the fraying of the cut, exposed pockets, and overall leg and ab exposure is so 90s! Kidman proves yet again that she was a style ‘it girl’ back then and still to this day!
