Trying to give your metabolism a boost? There are tons of reasons to do so, from helping to regulate your digestive tract, getting the most nutrients out of the food you eat, and helping you slim down a few sizes!

And just because you're trying to make healthier food choices doesn't mean you have to stop eating before bedtime, either. Instead of going for the bag of chips, try these tasty (and healthy) snacks that will give your metabolism the boost it needs.

cereal

Who said you can't have breakfast at midnight? High fiber cereals are actually a great choice for speeding up your metabolism! Dietitian Tanya Zuckerbrot noted a study that proved women who eat high fiber cereals are 30 percent less likely to be overweight. These cereals help speed up your metabolism and also make you feel fuller and satisfied for longer, and the fiber assits in insulin level regulation leading to less fat storage.

berries

Berries are also a great choice for a nighttime metabolic boost, according to Zuckerbrot. They're filled with tons of fiber, which causes the body to burn more calories in the digestion process. They're also low in calories, with one cup of raspberries only containing 60 calories!

lean meat

Lean meats like grilled chicken are great for your metabolism! These meats require so much energy for digestion that they help boost your metabolism and burn calories, says Zuckerbrot. "Studies have shown that people who follow a high-protein diet burn twice as many calories after a meal as people who follow a high-carbohydrate diet," she said. Lean meats also help preserve muscle mass during weight loss!

citrus fruits

Citrus fruits are also super beneficial to your metabolism, Zuckerbrot said. They contain vitamin C, which helps your metabolism run faster. " You only need 60 milligrams (mg) of vitamin C a day to meet your body’s basic needs, but increasing your daily intake to 500 mg can boost your fat-burning potential during exercise by 39 percent," she explained.
