Teller, Sperry, Woodley and Rodgers had been dining in Maui restaurant Monkeypod Kitchen last Wednesday, when Teller was punched in the face just outside of the restroom.
The Maui Police Department has said in a statement that "police responded to a report of an assault that occurred at a West Maui restaurant involving a male victim and one responsible party. The incident is currently under investigation; no further information is available at this time."
Despite the official sources having no further information to share, several media outlets are reporting theories as to what sparked the assault. TMZ wrote that Teller owed a wedding planner $60,000 for his 2019 destination wedding in Maui, though Sperry has said this is untrue.
She wrote in her Instagram post, “The story reported about Miles being punched in the face by @TMZ over 'money' is completely false.”
Teller also asserted on social media that he had never met his assailant before. However, an attorney for the alleged attacker has said that his client is the husband of Teller’s wedding planner.
In their article, TMZ had reported that an eyewitness to the crime reported hearing the attacker tell Teller that he owed $60,000 for his 2019 nuptials, which took place at the Ritz Carlton Kapalua Hotel.
The attorney told E! News, “It is my understanding that the altercation was a dispute over money pertaining to the couple’s wedding. We are currently evaluating my clients’ legal claims that may exist surrounding the incident, statements made about the incident and the parties previous business dealings.”
