Miley Cyrus has been candid and open with fans with fans about her tumultuous marriage with ex-husband Liam Hemsworth, posting on TikTok and other social media platforms, but most importantly, through her song lyrics. The pop star recently won her first Grammy—Record of the Year for her song “Flowers”—and also performed the song on stage, a song that many people have speculated is about Liam. Well, Miley may have just confirmed fans’ suspicions with just a few additions to the lyrics. Keep reading for more information.
Miley Cyrus Makes A Dig At Liam Hemsworth During Grammys Performance
"Flowers" is about Miley realizing her own self-worth, singing "I can buy myself flowers" and "I can hold my own hand," among other things. And the little additions she made during her Grammys performance point to the inspiration of the song being her ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth.
She sang, "I didn't want to leave you," and then seemingly ad-libbed "But I had to!" Then she sang, "I didn't want to fight," and then added "But we did!" which drew cheers from the audience.
Then, she finished the song's chorus by changing the words from "I started to cry, then remembered I can buy myself flowers" to "I started to cry, then remembered I just won my first Grammy!"
Users on X, formerly Twitter, immediately started insisting that the lyric changes were digs at Liam Hemsworth. "Miley Cyrus stood up there on stage and said F U Liam Hemsworth!" one user wrote.
"Miley Cyrus is so beautiful Liam Hemsworth is cursing god rn," added another.
Miley Cyrus Addresses The End Of Her Marriage On Social Media
Miley's Grammys performance certainly wasn't the first time she's either talked about or hinted at her marriage ending. One of the most recent instances was in a video post for her "Used To Be Young" series on social media.
The "Flowers" hitmaker, 30, told viewers in the new clip that she wanted to take a second, "slow down," and open up about something that was "actually serious." Cyrus said that she was able to pinpoint the very moment that she knew her relationship with the Hunger Games actor, 33, was not able to healthily continue.

Miley Cyrus Discusses The End Of Her Marriage And Split From Liam Hemsworth In New TikTok Video
As the summer sun beat down on the lively Glastonbury music festival in June of 2019, the pop star had a sudden and profound realization: her relationship with her husband had reached a breaking point. "Glastonbury was in June," Cyrus shared, "which was when the decision had been made."
Cyrus and Hemsworth famously met in June 2009 on the set of The Last Song and began dating soon after. They reportedly split (according to E!) for the first time in August 2010, got back together in September of that year, broke up again in November, and reunited once more in April of 2011.
In March of 2012, engagement rumors began swirling. Hemsworth officially confirmed to have proposed in June of that year, and in September of 2013, they called off their engagement.
The rollercoaster ride continued when the former couple confirmed they got back together and reignited their engagement (again!) in October of 2016, and they finally tied the knot in December 2018.
While looking back on her marriage in the new TikTok, Cyrus noted that the year of 2018 was difficult for the former spouses. Their house and belongings had been destroyed due to the devastating California wildfires, Cyrus said, and this happened only one month before their wedding.
"Me and Liam’s commitment to being married, of course came from a place of love first because we had been together for 10 years, but also from a place of trauma and just trying to rebuild as quickly as we could," Cyrus recalled in the video.
She added: "The day of the [Glastonbury] show was the day I had decided it was no longer going to work in my life to be in that relationship."
The "Jaded" songwriter continued: "That was another moment where the work, the performance, the character came first. I guess that’s why it’s now so important to me for that not to be the case — that the human comes first."
Following Cyrus' performance at Glastonbury, several months elapsed before Hemsworth filed for divorce in August of 2019. Eventually, they both reached a legally binding settlement early on in 2020.
Cyrus has been sharing clips for her "Used To Be Young" video series on social media since late August. In it, she has not only promoted her new single of the same name, but also reflected on heartwarming moments from her and Hemsworth's marriage.
The "We Can't Stop" singer remembered meeting Hemsworth on the set of their romantic film, The Last Song, in one recent clip.
"I think one of the elements that made that movie feel so special was it was watching two very young people fall in love with each other, which was happening in real time and real life," she confessed. She went on: "So, the chemistry was undeniable and that was the beginning of a long, 10-year relationship."
Cyrus also spoke about her fond memories of the Malibu home that she once shared with Hemsworth, and how she also worked on her very first record, Meet Miley Cyrus, in 2007, there.
"The Meet Miley Cyrus record was really where I started writing my own songs as a solo artist, and so I was working with a producer in Malibu that lived in a house in Ramirez Canyon, which I would've never known 15 years later I would be living in that house, which would eventually burn down." She added: "That house had so much magic to it. It ended up really changing my life."
