Cyrus told Lowe, "I, like a lot of people–being completely honest—during the pandemic fell off."
She added, "I now am back on sobriety, two weeks sober, and I feel like I really accepted that time."
For Cyrus, part of accepting that time is taking on a more introspective mindset when thinking about it. She explained her strategy: "Don’t get furious, get curious. So don’t get mad at yourself, but ask yourself what happened."
For the singer, returning to a sober lifestyle had a lot to do with how she wanted to approach each day.
The 28-year-old told Lowe that recently she has "just been wanting to wake up 100%, 100% of the time."
Although this mindset shift works for Cyrus, she admits that it is not the same for everyone, especially those who struggle with addiction.
She explained, "I think everyone has to do what is best for them. I don’t have a problem with drinking, I have a problem with the decisions I make once I go past [a certain level]."
Cyrus explains that she is not a "moderation person," making it more difficult for her to avoid going too far and making decisions she later regrets.
The singer explains that those decisions sometimes include "dialing the numbers and reaching out to people that I’ve detached from purposely."
She adds, “When we drink sometimes there’s almost, like, no future. I become very impulsive."
