Miley Cyrus shared that her dog, Mary Jane, recently passed away. The 28-year-old took the loss hard, and shared a song that she dedicated to her pup years ago, explaining that the music was a kind of “medicine” for her, adding that she is currently experiencing serious “heartache” in the wake of her dog’s passing.
The star showed love for Mary Jane over Instagram, sharing the song with a slideshow full of pictures of her dog.
She captioned the video, “I wrote this song in Malibu years ago on a piano in a house that no longer exists. About my dog Mary Jane who is also gone now. A lot has changed over time. Mostly me.”
Cyrus continued, explaining the kinds of emotions she's been going through since losing her dog.
"Music is my medicine. This song revolves around loss & heartache. Which I am currently experiencing after Mary Jane's passing," she wrote."MJ was a true queen. She wore her grace, dignity & kindness like a crown. She will never be forgotten and will forever be missed."
"To know her is to love her. It has been my honor being her mom and best friend," she added.
Earlier in the week, Cyrus also wrote about the loss on her Instagram stories. "Our connection was purely DIVINE. An incomparable love," she explained.
Cyrus also posted a video of her recording the song back in 2018, prompting many fans to ask her to release it as a single.
One wrote, "Please RELEASE IT."
Another commented, "MILEY PLEASE DROP IT ON SPOTIFY, THIS IS MASTERPIECE... THANK YOU FOR YOUR ART!!!! SENDING MUCH LOVE."
