Miranda Lambert just graced the most recent cover of People Magazine and sat down for an interview to discuss her current “happy” state, her relationship with her second husband, and the tumultuous journey it took to get there. While the “House That Built Me” hitmaker, 38, didn’t mention who or what exactly caused the “heartbreak” that allowed her to grow, fans on Twitter seem convinced that she was referring to her past high-profile marriage to fellow country singer Blake Shelton, 46.

“Finding happiness and being at peace with yourself, it’s a long journey, but I’ve really gotten to a great place,” Lambert said of her current mindset. “My manager’s been good about asking me to ‘sit in my life.’ Country music is a huge part of my life, but it’s not fully who I am,” she added. As for what fans think might be about Shelton, Lambert also said, “Without the hard stuff — the chaos, the crazy schedule, the heartbreak, the falling in love, the falling out of love — I wouldn’t be who I am. I’m thankful for the lessons, even though they hurt at the time.”

The “Bluebird” singer was married to the Voice coach from 2011 to 2015, and they garnered attention and interest from the public throughout their relationship and at its very end, as two of Nashville’s hugest stars at the time. “Miranda is so inspiring, she’s come so far,” wrote one fan while another added, “Her divorce must have been hard. Proud of her for keeping her head held high.” In 2019, Lambert wed retired NYPD officer Brendan McLoughlin, 30, after just 3 months of dating, and the two have been together ever since.

In order to have a successful relationship with McLoughlin, Lambert explained that through prior self-discovery and time spent alone, she was able to determine what she wanted out of life. “When I turned 30, I started to take life in a new direction and really start to understand myself a little better,” the Grammy winner said. “And going through hard things obviously makes you get to know yourself better. When you get broken down pretty good, you look at the mirror and you go, ‘I have to spend some time with me, learn who I am and what I want.'” She then noted, “I got to a really good place with myself. Then I met my husband.”

The couple, as People reported, reside on a farm close to Nashville, and Lambert is more than happy to gush over her beau. “I want to be open about how happy we are,” she said. “I just don’t give two s—s about people’s opinion of me, my marriage, my music or anything else. I just care that I’m being me.”

She added that McLoughlin, who has a 3-year-old son from a previous relationship was new to small town life, but happily moved from NYC to be with her. “He jumped right into this lifestyle — there’s a learning curve taking a New Yorker straight to the woods — but it was a big laugh. It’s nice to have a partner in that, someone by your side that supports you, loves you and believes in you,” she said. “He loves me for me. It’s a really cool thing to have in my life, at this point in my life.”

Ultimately, while Lambert’s career is far from slowing down (with upcoming Boot Barn and Walmart clothing and home goods lines), she is prioritizing time-off after decades in the music business and a demanding schedule. “It’s really about balance of life and work for me right now,” she went on. “I’ve been touring for 20 years, and I’ve been everywhere and seen nothing — just a lot of parking lots. I’m trying to use my downtime to really experience life.” (Time to relax for Lambert sounds “well-deserved,” as one fan put it!)
