As Apple prepares to release the iPhone 12, customers are confronting more choices than ever before. While the newest iPhone iteration is being offered in four models — iPhone 12, Pro, Pro Max, and Mini — should you decide you needn’t spend more money on the latest and greatest, there are still fantastic older iPhone options you can consider. Before you shop, consider one mistake that a lot of Apple costumers make and then regret. This is the scary mistake you’re making when you buy a new iPhone, according to tech experts.

In our rush to get our hands on a new iPhone some of us mistakenly try to save a few hundred dollars by purchasing a phone that has less storage space than we need. The problem with this is that, while it will save you money in the short term, if your device isn’t equipped to handle your work or lifestyle needs, you will likely end up spending more money in the long run to purchase additional storage — or will settle for what you have and regret your purchase.

The solution to this mistake is simple: take account of how much storage you have used on your current device and shop for similar storage when it comes time to buy a new iPhone.

Oftentimes the cost differential between one storage category and the next is minimal. For example, the new iPhone 12 Carrier Model offers 64GB for $799, 128GB for $849, and 256GB for $949.

Generally speaking, if you’re only using your iPhone for basic needs and maybe the occasional game or Facebook update, tech experts say you can manage with a lower storage capacity. But if you tend to install a wider range of apps and games on your phone, purchasing 128GB or 256GB will save you the headache of having to purchase additional storage in the future.
