Your iPhone battery should ideally last you the entire day. Sure, you may have to charge it on occasion throughout the day to keep it within that sweet charging range of 30 to 80 percent, but otherwise, your device should not consume so much power that it winds up dead before your evening commute. If you are having major battery problems, it’s time to examine your phone habits — specifically, this one: this is the one mistake you could be making that’s completely ruining your iPhone’s battery life.

Quitting Apps And Swiping Them Away

Sure, it feels satisfying, but quitting your apps and swiping them away could be doing far more damage than good to your phone.

“It is a widely spread misconception that recently used apps that are in the carousel are secretly still running in the background and that swiping them away finally shuts them down to save your iPhone battery,” says Tech Expert Shane Paarman, founder and CEO of awesomestuff365. “In reality, swiping them away does the opposite, and can seriously damage your iPhone’s battery life over time.”

These apps are placed on stand-by mode, Paarman explains, so they aren’t actually running in the background. “They are simply there, as recently used, and can be easily opened up again to where you left off,” Paarman says.

When you swipe the apps away, you are shutting them down for good, and if you want to access them again, they need to do a full reboot which takes up a lot more battery.

“It's kind of similar to having a TV on stand-by or sleep mode and turning it back on which takes very little energy or having a TV that is completely turned off and turning it back on which then takes a lot more energy,” Paarman says.

For a better working phone, simply stop doing this one thing that you needn’t do in the first place. Your apps can stay “opened” and on stand-by. For a battery boost, you can also try providing your phone with occasional charges throughout the day so that you don’t overcharge it at night.
