Winter can be a truly magical time of year to get married, and choosing your color combo for the big day is a crucial part of planning the event's overall style. Whatever season you say I do in, there are always things to watch out for before you commit to certain colors. Here are five mistakes to avoid if you happen to be a winter bride.

Sticking With Holiday Colors
Although you might be getting hitched around the holidays, don't feel like you need to choose traditional holiday colors, says Jamie O’Donnell of Jamie O + Co. "It can be tricky if you are designing a wedding in winter, especially around the holidays because many venues have decorated with holiday décor, but that doesn’t mean you have to design your wedding like a holiday party. There are ways around it by choosing elegant colors like a gold or silver metallics and keeping the table centerpieces chic with clear crystal candle holders and vases."
Going Too Pale
A mistake brides make when choosing winter wedding colors is going too pale, says Jenifer Gay of Blue Flamingo Weddings. "It's beautiful to use white, ivory, blush, light blue, gold and silver, however using those colors alone can look washed out. You should always add some pops of bright color in with the paler colors. Fuchsia, red, teal, bolder colors like that combined with the beautiful pastels will save your look."
Thinking You Can't Choose Pastels
Pastels are popular in the summer, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use them in the winter as well. "Icy blues and sage greens can create a clean color scheme if added to winter whites and silvery metallics," says Justina Michaels of Fitting Fêtes.
Playing It Safe
"The biggest mistake I see winter wedding couples make regarding their wedding color selection is foregoing color for a 'safer' choice of white, silver or gold," says Gineen Cargo of Cargo & Co. Events. "I often remind my couples that wedding colors are just as personal of a choice as the music you select to play for your first dance. There’s no reason you can’t have a hot pink tropical wedding even if the weather neglects to match the theme."
Not Embracing The Season
You can fully embrace winter and design your event with the reflective qualities of snow by capturing the sparkle and shine, says O'Donnell. "So don’t be shy about glamming up your tables or chairs for your reception. Use white iridescent sequin linens on your tables, or glam cold or copper sequins chair ties to give your design that icy snow or gold glittery effect. Guests will think they walked into a winter wonderland."
