We all know supplements are big business, so choosing yours wisely can help you make the most impact on your health without spending an arm and a leg on products that do very little. Neuroscientist Robert Love is one expert who has gained social media popularity for being clear and concise about what works — and what doesn’t work.

According to Love, there are three morning supplements that you can take to “slow down aging.” And there’s a good chance you’ve never heard of at least two of these, which means you could be missing out on key benefits for your health, skin, body, and mind. The great news is that it’s never too late to start good supplement habits. According to Love, incorporating these three supplements into your daily routine can reverse aging. As always, check with your doctor first before starting a new supplement regimen.

1. Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN)

Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN) is a precursor to NAD+, which is an energy source used in every cell in your body. Without NAD+ you can die within 30 seconds, so the more of it you have, the better for your health, according to Love. Not only does NMN enhance cellular metabolism and help repair cells, but it also could improve mitochondrial function and reduce oxidative stress in the body. It can help you manage blood sugar levels and promote cardiovascular health.

2. Resveratrol

You may have heard of resveratrol — it’s found in red wine. Mice who lived longest in studies of resveratrol actually took it every other day, not every day, hence why Love says he takes his on alternate days of the week. Resveratrol is a potent antioxidant that helps reduce inflammation in the body, boosts metabolic health, and is associated with cardiovascular health, including a reduction in blood pressure and a decrease in LDL cholesterol levels.

3. Quercetin

Quercetin is an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory that is believed to protect our DNA and repair it. It supports immune health by enhancing how well immune cells work, protects brain cells to support cognitive function, and may even provide allergy relief by acting as a natural histamine.

Your local pharmacy has shelves and shelves of supplements, but choosing those that have been proven to boost your body’s cells and organs is the smartest way to embark on an effective anti-aging supplement routine.
