We saw a lot of famous faces at the 2021 MTV VMAs last night. And thanks to their barely there outfits, we saw a lot of famous bodies too…
The MTV Video Music Awards took place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York last night. And while some of the biggest names in music from Alicia Keys to Camila Cabello to Ed Sheeran performed their hearts out on the stage, it was what the celebs were wearing – or not wearing, more accurately – that undoubtedly got the most attention.
It’s safe to say that covering up was not an option at the VMAs, as everyone from Megan Fox to Ashanti to Madison Beer all decided that less was definitely more. The celebs stormed the red carpet in sheer, barely there dresses – otherwise known as naked dresses, for obvious reasons – that were either almost completely see-through (yes Megan Fox, we’re literally looking at you) or slashed in a million different directions complete with bondage-inspired accents, leaving very little to the imagination. We’re kind of obsessed with it though – we love it when celebs take fashion risks, and the VMAs are usually one of the riskiest red carpets of the year. Take a look at some of our favorites from the night:
Megan Fox
The internet can’t stop talking about Megan Fox’s dress. Or lack thereof! We had a feeling that Megan would bring her sartorial A-game at the VMAs, as her boyfriend Machine Gun Kelly was up for an award. Spoiler alert: he won! But the 35-year-old Transformers actress’s barely there Mugler dress was surely the biggest prize of the whole night.

Ciara
Whoever said that lace was soft, romantic, elegant and conservative clearly didn’t see Ciara’s VMAs look. The Downton Abbey wardrobe department certainly won’t be borrowing the 35-year-old singer’s dress, let’s put it that way! Ciara was smoking hot on the red carpet, as her black lace dress by Tom Ford was not only see-through to reveal her black underwear, but it was also slashed asymmetrically from the top to right below her breasts. We don’t know where to look!

Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez clearly understood the unofficial skin exposing sartorial theme, as she slayed in a top and skirt combo that left very little to the imagination. If you thought the fact that she was wearing a long sleeved top complete with a high neck meant that she was covering up, shame on you! The 52-year-old singer and actress showed everyone decades her junior how it’s done; she literally glowed on the red carpet, as well as on the stage, proving she can do no wrong!

Ashanti
Is it a dress? Is it a bikini? Is it bondage? We think Ashanti’s Michael Costello dress was a mix of all three! Her dress was slashed in a multitude of different directions, and is certainly a contender for one of the most daring of the night. The 40-year-old singer exposed her toned, flawless body on the red carpet last night, confirming that she hasn’t seemed to age since she first burst onto the music scene all those years ago. Are you a fan of her dominatrix inspired look?

Kourtney Kardashian
Another A-lister who took the unofficial dominatrix theme very seriously was Kourtney Kardashian. We’ve been obsessed with the 42-year-old Keeping Up with the Kardashians star’s wardrobe ever since her relationship with 45-year-old Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker was confirmed earlier this year, and it’s safe to say that this leather look is one of her most daring to date. We don’t know about you, but we don’t think she’s done with the provocative looks just yet. Watch this space!

Madison Beer
There’s the very racy high cut bodysuit, and there’s the even racier thigh high slit, but have you ever heard of a waist high slit? If not, Madison Beer just debuted it! The 22-year-old singer’s stunning Dolce and Gabbana dress came with an outrageously high slit, as well as an almost flesh colored pink hue to add to the overall sexiness of the look, and was definitely one of the most daring ensembles of the night. It’s not the dress to wear if you have something to hide!

Tinashe
While the 28-year-old singer’s outfit wasn’t quite as see-through as some of the other looks we saw on the red carpet, it was certainly just as skin-exposing. The Bouncin’ singer is clearly proud of her rock hard abs and her seemingly endless hard work in the gym, and didn’t think twice about showing it off. At least, we would hope that’s how she got such an enviable body. Can you imagine how utterly unfair life would be if she barely worked out?

Saweetie
The 28-year-old rapper’s Valentino dress definitely turned heads on the red carpet. There was a higher skin to dress ratio, as the almost-blinding metallic dress featured an exceptionally low cut at the front, and an extremely daring slit coming way past her thigh. We’re completely obsessed with this look! Not only did Saweetie win a VMA last night (Best Friend got the Best Art Direction award), but she is also one of our red carpet winners too!

Halle Bailey
This look definitely took us by surprise! The 21-year-old singer and actress wore a very daring Mônot cut-out dress from the fall 2021 collection, with just a few tweaks and modifications to make it a little more conservative than the runway edition. We use the term conservative very lightly though, as the Grown-ish star’s dress was still extremely daring, and very much in keeping with the slashed and skin-exposing theme of the evening. Maybe this was as daring as she was allowed to get while she’s working with Disney – let’s not forget that she is starring as Ariel in the Disney live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.
