Let’s face it: Aging skin is inevitable. It’s all a part of being human. As you grow older, you’ll start to get eye bags, wrinkles, fine lines, and dark circles. Don’t worry—they’re are absolutely normal. But if there’s one thing you should know, it’s that consistently following a skincare routine can help address all your concerns. It helps to invest in skincare products and treatments that will give your skin a fresh and youthful glow.
So with that in mind, what products exactly should you be adding to your beauty regimen? We asked professional makeup artist Margina Dennis to find out. Keep reading to learn more.
Must-Have Skincare Products To Add To Your Routine
According to Dennis, “Two skincare products women over 40 should be using are products that aid in surface exfoliation and cell turnover like AHA (alpha hydroxy acid), BHA (beta hydroxy acid), enzymes, and retinols.” She adds, “Getting rid of that top layer of skin allows your moisturizer and serums to work more effectively and they also help to increase cellular turnover which helps the skin to look brighter and more youthful.”
Dennis notes, “Make sure to follow the instructions carefully and be mindful that retinol use can thin the skin.” She recommends using ExfoliKate by Kate Somerville because it “is a great gentle exfoliant that contains pumpkin enzymes, AHA, and BHA.”
“Sun protection should accompany the use of these products,” Dennis tells us. “I like the Tatcha Sunscreen because it is a mineral sunscreen, it contains hyaluronic acid which hydrates [the skin], and [it has] antioxidants to protect the skin from free radicals that can cause further damage.”
Additionally, she explains, “Moisturizers containing ceramides and peptides help to increase collagen production. Collagen is the glue of the skin and helps skin to keep its firmness.” As for product recommendations, she suggests the Skinn Cosmetics Age Reset Serum Intensive since it “is a peptide-rich clinically proven serum that improves firmness and skin elasticity.” Aside from that, she shares that “Elizabeth Arden is known for its Ceramide Capsules.”
Lastly, Dennis notes that one other useful skincare product is the NuFACE® Microcurrent Device. “The micro current helps to lift, firm, and tighten the skin and also helps to stimulate the skin’s collagen production when used daily,” she concludes.
