When you go to Wendy’s, there are several things you can expect to find in your meal: Tasty, salty goodness; a load of calories; and some of the best fries around.

Typically, you’re not going to run into any surprises—maybe just the occasional unexpected menu item, like a new Frosty flavor. But when one Redditor ordered some good old Wendy’s nuggets in March, they got a serious shock.

We wish you could tell you exactly what was in user reneenicole1’s nuggets, but the jury is still out. However, many people think it’s a chicken bone. Surprise!

Mystery item in Wendy's meal might be bone

User reneenicole1 did what many do when they encounter a pressing question: she turned to Reddit. "Was in my chicken nugget, what is it?" she asked in a post in the Wendy's subreddit, accompanied by a picture of what looks like it could be a chicken bone.

Now, we've heard that there can be some seriously questionable ingredients in fast food "chicken" nuggets. After all, who could forget the pink McDonald's goop?! (Okay, that was debunked, but still, it stuck with us.) So on one hand, it's not too surprising to hear that the object in this photo is likely a bone from a real chicken. In fact, it could be much worse.

"It looks like a bone…. ive never seen that in a wendys chicken nuggie b4," someone commented.

Other people chimed in to say that they'd also never seen anything like it—including a few Wendy's employees. "Coming from a wendys manager, i have NEVER seen that in my 3 years working there," one commented. "i think i’d have to call corporate or something about that one it’s looks disgusting." Well, there's a first time for everything!

One person suggested that the entire batch of nuggets should be recalled, and that the poster could even sue Wendy's. "Could have been a bad batch of nuggets with bones in them that was erroneously distributed. That entire batch needs to be recalled," they wrote. "In the meantime you could definitely get money out of a settlement from them if you make a case out of this." It wouldn't be the first lawsuit Wendy's has experienced this year.

One commenter said that this is a "friendly reminder that chickens don't have 'nuggets' and they are simply a mashed-together product made of ground up body parts," and even cited this as one of their reasons for going vegetarian. "So nasty lol sometimes things like this will happen. Factory slaughterhouses are not a pleasant place."

So, what do you think? Is this enough to turn you away from chicken nuggets—or even all meat—for good? Will you be switching to plant-based fast food options?

...or are you just going to switch to McDonald's? After all, some people think spicy nuggets are making a comeback.
