In a recent TikTok video, he and naturopathic doctor Dr. Taylor Mitchell explained more about three specific foods that women over 50 should minimize or avoid to prevent weight gain and achieve hormonal balance.

1. Fried Foods / Seed Oils
The first type of food that Mitchell stressed avoiding over 50 is fried food. "Fried food is incredibly inflammatory," she noted. This, she said, is because oftentimes "seed oils, like canola oil and grapeseed oil" are used, and "we're not supposed to be consuming that at all, let alone fry our foods in it."
She noted that these types of oils are "very stressful for our cells and for our DNA to deal with highly inflammatory processed oils." Ultimately, she clarified that for maintaining a healthy weight and hormonal balance, it's best to steer clear of fried foods. These foods are loaded with calories and unhealthy fats, which can also lead to inflammation.

2. Processed Grains
Up next, Mitchell recommended skipping processed grains. "Why is this a big deal? Because oftentimes wheat, in particular, is sprayed with this chemical herbicide called Roundup," she said. She shared that "even organic oatmeal contains trace amounts of this glyphosate toxicity." This means it's "really important to avoid processed grains like cookies, bagels, bread, things like that."
She went on: "Glyphosate is an herbicide that they spray on our crops, and it's very damaging. You can look it up. It's linked with many different types of cancers. It's terrible for your gut bacteria. It actually destroys your gut bacteria, and it also destroys our defenses, which is our immune system." She noted that it also "weakens our ability to fight illness."

3. Soda
The last thing the two experts said to limit or completely avoid is soda because it contains "high fructose corn syrup, which is a highly processed sugar." Mitchell added: "it's so hard for your body to handle that much amount of sugar. It's really bad for your liver, so it can actually store as fat."
She went on to say that this "immediately contributes to obesity and diabetes. It makes it really difficult to lose weight if you consume soda on a regular basis." Mitchell said that "caramel color has been linked with many different types of cancer." She continued, "So I would stay away from soda, especially diet soda, as much as possible."
