Dining out can lead to a lot of unhealthy temptations. Ordering a salad may seem like a no-brainer if you're trying to resist cheating on your diet, but some food experts say that it's actually one of the grossest things you can get at a restaurant!

“You think lemons in water are dirty? The salads are filthy,” Howard Cannon, CEO of Restaurant Expert Witness and author of “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Starting A Restaurant” said, according to Reader's Digest. Yikes!
Well, not all salads are bad -- it's just the ones that use iceberg lettuce as a base. Cannon pointed out that a lot of germs and bacteria can hide inside the cracks and corners of iceberg lettuce, which can be hard to clean properly. But even if the greens are washed, it's often served soggy, which Cannon says is a "big red flag."
Not only do food experts say that wedge salads are dirty, but they also think that they're a major rip-off, too! “It's marked up at least 20 times,” says Peter Chastain, executive chef and owner of California’s Prima Ristorante, who also noted that iceberg lettuce is made up of 98% water and has little nutritional value.
Wow, who knew that iceberg lettuce could be so gross? We're definitely going to get a salad with different greens the next time we order one at a restaurant. Or, we could just get a burger and fries instead...
