Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so you want to make sure that it's filled with the proper nutrients needed to give your body energy. But, if your mornings are busy, breakfast often takes the backburner on your list of priorities. If you're in a rush and get your breakfast from McDonald's, make sure that you're not getting a Sausage McMuffin...

Mickey D's Sausage McMuffins are one of the chain's most popular breakfast items. It brings together all of your breakfast favorites, including McDonald's savory hot sausage and a slice of melty American cheese, on a toasted English muffin. Though this makes a delicious breakfast, it's not the best option for your waistline. At 400 calories, 25 grams of fat, 29 grams of carbs, and 740 milligrams of sodium, the Sausage McMuffin offers dieters very little nutritional benefits.

And, experts say that you shouldn't order the classic sandwich with eggs either, as they're loaded with preservatives. The chain's folded eggs and scrambled eggs contain preservatives in order to maintain it's signature color, texture, and taste, according to CNBC. Its ingredient list looks like this: "pasteurized whole eggs, modified food starch, soybean oil, natural flavors (plant source), sodium acid pyrophosphate, carrageenan, flavor enhancer (salt, maltodextrin, natural flavor [plant source], spices, herb, turmeric [color]), monosodium phosphate, citric acid, soy lecithin."
Thankfully, not all of McDonald's eggs come with such a long list of "ingredients." CNBC said that the Golden Arches' Egg McMuffin-sized eggs are cracked fresh to make the famous breakfast sandwich's staple ingredient. That's definitely good to know!

So, regardless of the types of eggs you prefer with your Mickey D's breakfast, make sure that you're mindful of the ingredients that go into them. Also, have your Sausage McMuffins in moderation to ensure that you're staying within your recommended calorie intake for the day and fueling your body with good, wholesome eggs in the morning.
