Whenever you go out to a nice restaurant, most likely the steak comes highly recommended. Whether it’s a New York Strip, or Filet Mignon, there’s no doubting that the piece of meat is one of the top menu items. What many restaurant-goers might not be considering, though is how that meat is being prepared, where it’s coming from, and why it’s so expensive. Here are some reasons why you should never order steak at a restaurant...

The Well-Done Steak Might Not Be Fresh
According to world-renowned chef, Anthony Bourdain, if you ask for well-done steak, most likely you’re getting pieces that were over-cooked from a previous order. “What happens when the chef finds a tough, slightly skanky end-cut of sirloin that's been pushed repeatedly to the back of the pile? He can throw it out, but that's a total loss... Or, he can ‘save for well-done.’" If you’re ordering well-done steak, you might not want to risk getting the bits from another person’s order!
The Meat Is Over-Priced
Why is that excellent piece of red meat costing you $60? Is it any better than the $15 piece you could cook at home? Probably not. Restaurants boast the best cuts and the most tender pieces of steak, but the price also factors in the atmosphere. Not only are you paying for a specific piece of meat, you’re paying for the atmosphere and name of the restaurant.
Well-Done Steak May Increase Your Risk Of Alzheimer’s
Glycotoxins are extremely present in well-done steaks and are risk-factors when it comes to Alzheimer’s disease and brain health. According to a study done by New York's Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, subjects with high-blood levels of glycotoxins had indications of “cognitive decline.” So, maybe it’s time to swap those well-done steaks for something that doesn’t affect brain health!
You Can’t Always Trust The Chef
From medium to medium-well, to well-done, meat eaters love their cuts cooked certain ways, which is why you can’t always trust a chef to cook it perfectly. A chef may be cooking multiple steaks at once, he may broil them or cook over an open flame; there are many variables at hand in a kitchen. If you’re going to order steak in a restaurant, make sure you consider all of these factors.
