When asked which foods should be avoided at Wendy's, this employee took to Reddit to warn customers to steer clear of the chili. This longtime menu item has a bad reputation among Wendy's employees for featuring old ingredients and for never being served fresh.

“I used to work at Wendy’s. The meat used in the chili, yeah, that comes from the meat on the grill top that expires and dries up that’s put in to a warming drawer until you have enough for a batch of chili, which we first freeze and then thaw the next day," the employee said, according to the Huffington Post.
And, if the chili does get ordered, the employee revealed that they add hot water to the old chili that's been sitting in the warmer to give to the customers. Ew...

This wasn't the only employee that could vouch for mishandling of the Wendy's chili. Another employee said that this happened all the time at their Wendy's, and that the staff used some pretty alarming ingredients to make the chili. "I worked at Wendy's when I was 16 (32 now), but the meat in the chili is the burnt patties from the grill collected in a drawer, put in a bag, frozen, then boiled and chopped up, up to a week later," the former employee said, according to Thrillist.

Wow, we really wish we didn't know any of this... You can bet that we'll be extra careful when ordering chili from Wendy's. And, that we'll be asking for it to be made fresh to order!
