According to McKay Coppins‘ new biography on Senator Mitt Romney titled Romney: A Reckoning, it has been reported that during a New England Patriots game where both Romney and Donald Trump were invited as guests by team owner Robert Kraft, Trump allegedly shared his intentions of “dropping” his girlfriend at the time, Melania.
“Trump sidled up to Romney’s son Josh and pointed at a leggy brunette across the room. ‘Have you seen my girlfriend, Melania?’ he asked, smirking. ‘When I drop her, the phone is gonna ring off the hook. Every guy in New York wants to go out with her,'” Coppins recalls in an excerpt of the book (out October 24th) that was obtained by Rolling Stone.
Revelations From New Mitt Romney Biography: Did Donald Trump Want To 'Drop' Melania At One Point?
The Utah senator's political career and life within the Republican Party before the Trump era are laid bare in the candid book, according to the outlet. It recounts multiple pre-presidential encounters between the senator and the future president.
The excerpt focuses on their initial meeting at Mar-a-Lago in the 1990s. It portrays Romney's oscillating feelings towards the brash real estate mogul and his ostentatious way of living, hinting at a future political showdown between the two.
Romney's portrayal of his initial encounters with the ex-president did not sit well with Trump's entourage. One Trump spokesperson told Rolling Stone: "Mittens is a loser who is 'retiring' because he knows he doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of surviving another campaign."
They added: "He should stop lying and creating fake stories in order to stay relevant. The fact is that he dropped the ball when he ran against Barack Obama and is partially responsible for the mess America is in."
As for Donald and Melania Trump, the former First Lady has been keeping a low profile amid her husband’s ongoing legal battles and his latest run for the White House. She has also been reportedly renegotiating her prenup with Donald for the past year, according to sources that recently spoke with Page Six.
"This agreement was necessary because of the current legal battles [Donald] has suffered," an insider dished to the outlet in reference to the $250M fraud lawsuit filed against him by New York Attorney General Letitia James and the $5M defamation lawsuit filed by E. Jean Carroll, to name just two.
Melania "quietly" and successfully renegotiated her prenuptial agreement with Donald, according to the publication, who she has been married to since 2005 and with whom she shares 17-year-old son Barron Trump.
"Over the last year, Melania and her team have been quietly negotiating a new 'postnup' agreement between herself and Donald Trump," the source went on, while also noting that the new agreement apparently covers both money and property.
