Meghan Markle is not having success in a major legal battle against Associated Newspapers, the publisher of Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday. The Duchess of Sussex and husband Prince Harry are suing the publisher over invasion of privacy due to five articles published in February 2019 that included portions of a handwritten letter Markle wrote to her estranged father, Thomas Markle.

Markle lost a recent court decision, meaning Associated Newspapers may use the contents of a behind-the scenes book about the Duke and Duchess legal defense for the upcoming court case, according to Entertainment Tonight.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex first brought on their case against Associated Newspapers in October 2019. They wrote in a statement at the time: "There is a human cost to this relentless propaganda, specifically when it is knowingly false and malicious, and though we have continued to put on a brave face—as so many of you can relate to—I cannot begin to describe how painful it has been."

Markle's lawsuit against the publisher claimed that Associated Newspapers' actions were “a campaign by this media group to publish false and deliberately derogatory stories about her as well as her husband.”

A full trial in the case between Meghan Markle and Associated Newspapers is expected to start in January.
