The ever-popular metallic trend appears to have had a huge upgrade in 2022 thanks to the metallic breastplates and bustiers that are finding their way onto the red carpets right now!

This empowering trend appears to be an extension of the gold plating trend which was inspired by the latest Maison Schiaparelli collection, which Kendall Jenner made us fall in love with when she wore the house’s gold breast bustier teamed with gold plated shoes when she was out and about in New York City back in September. Not your average street style look, we think you’ll agree!

Fast forward two months, however, and gold-plated bustiers seem quite tame compared to what is on the red carpet – with Sydney Sweeney and Olivia Wilde paving the way for far more dramatic takes on the trend!

Olivia Wilde At The Los Angeles Premiere Of 'Women Talking'

For the Los Angeles premiere of Women Talking, which took place at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills on Thursday, November 17th, the 38-year-old Don't Worry Darling director stole the show on the red carpet (but technically blue carpet!) courtesy of her black maxi dress from the Gabriela Hearst Spring 2023 collection, featuring long sleeves and a dramatic gold breastplate with a cone-shaped bust in the middle. An unexpected yet powerful red carpet look that got *everyone* talking!

Olivia, who recently split from her Don't Worry Darling co-star Harry Styles, accessorized her 'Cybelle' dress with some simple black platform boots, and complemented the gold breastplate by wearing shimmery brown and gold eye makeup, teamed with black feline-inspired eyeliner and rosy cheeks.

Sydney Sweeney At The GQ 2022 Men Of The Year Awards

The 25-year-old Euphoria actress showed that you don’t have to go for gold when embracing the trend, as she proved that silver is just as striking when she attended GQ's 2022 Men of the Year Awards in London on November 16th, wearing a stunning black maxi dress from the LaQuan Smith Spring 2023 ready-to-wear collection.

The dress was a work of art, as it featured a high neck, asymmetrical sleeves, and a silver breastplate in the middle, which showed off Sydney's toned abs perfectly. The White Lotus actress accentuated the silver breastplate even further by accessorizing with silver earrings and sparkly eye makeup, while wearing her hair in an undistracting updo to let the dress do all the talking.
