Double Cleansing

Double cleansing might sound self-explanatory, but it's a little more specific than simply washing your face twice. In fact, the point of double cleansing is that you are using two different cleansers on your face--starting out with an oil-based one and finishing off with one that's water-based.

Although that might sound unnecessary, it is actually hugely helpful--especially if you regularly wear makeup.

Double cleansing helps remove all of your makeup, which is crucial if you want a more youthful look. Dendy Engelman, a dermatologist in New York City, tells Glam, "“Sleeping with makeup on overnight while your skin is repairing itself weakens the skin barrier and causes rapid aging.”

Plus, it can also lead to some serious breakouts.

This is where the oil-based cleanser comes in handy. Engelman continues, "It removes all the dirt, bacteria and dead skin cells you accumulated throughout the day.” Then, pick out a water-based cleanser more specific to your skin type.
