Costco, with its vast warehouses and reputation for offering bulk savings on everything from groceries to electronics, is a staple for countless shoppers. However, even amidst its wide array of fan-favorite products, there are some items that have left Costco super fans feeling underwhelmed. Earlier this year, Redditors took to the platform to discuss which Costco items they believe are overrated, sparking a lively debate among the community.

From household essentials to ready-to-eat meals, Costco’s offerings are designed to cater to various needs and preferences. Yet, not every product lives up to the hype, according to the candid opinions shared in the Reddit thread titled “What Costco items are overrated?”

Here are eight Costco items that have garnered criticism from passionate shoppers who expect nothing but the best from their beloved wholesale giant.

1. Rotisserie Chicken

The iconic Costco rotisserie chicken, often lauded for its affordability and convenience, has its detractors. The original poster of the Reddit thread expressed strong feelings against it, saying, "I’m not a fan of the rotisserie chicken. It has an aftertaste of cleaning solution." While many rave about this popular item, not everyone is convinced. In fact, similar complaints of a "chemical" taste and even reports of stomach issues have been cropping up as of recent.

2. Grab-and-Go Pinwheel Sandwich Platters

Pinwheel sandwich platters look appealing, but according to shoppers, they often disappoint in flavor. One Redditor shared their frustration: "They look soooo good but are always incredibly bland and/or full of unexpected flavors (cranberry?!) and just never what I’m expecting. I forget about every 18 months or so and try again - just to be repulsed anew." Say it ain't so!

3. Kirkland Socks

Costco's Kirkland socks, once praised for their quality, have recently been criticized. One user noted, "The Kirkland socks have gone down in quality, and I rely on those bad boys. Especially any of their warm socks. They were semi-comparable to a performance midweight hiking sock previously." Many users have found that the newer versions are not up to the standard they used to be.

4. 4-Section Turkey Sandwich

Another grab-and-go item that fails to impress is the 4-section turkey sandwich on flatbread. A disappointed customer stated, "Tastes like nothing." This deli item has not lived up to the expectations of many Costco shoppers, who find it bland and lacking in flavor.

5. Chicken Bake

Despite its long-standing presence on the Costco menu, the chicken bake has its share of critics. One Redditor didn't hold back: "Chicken bakes are awful and have been for the last 15 years." The once-popular item seems to have lost its charm for many loyal customers—but of course, there are still many people who swear by them.

6. RealGood Food

The RealGood brand, known for its gluten-free frozen foods, has sparked debate. While some appreciate the brand's offerings, others are not impressed. "Anything in the frozen section that is from RealGood brand. RealGood is 'no good.'" However, many were quick to point out that given this food is gluten-free and keto-friendly, it makes a great alternative to other frozen foods.

7. Kirkland Toilet Paper

Costco's Kirkland toilet paper has also faced criticism. A Reddit user lamented, "It used to be decent but now the TP is just horrid. Shreds to pieces just getting it from the roll." The decline in quality has frustrated many who once relied on this staple product.

8. Kirkland Dishwasher Pods

Finally, Kirkland dishwasher pods have not met the mark for some users. One Redditor shared their experience: "Kirkland dishwasher pacs. I'm finally almost done with my box so I can go back to Finish or something else. Never again!" Another chimed in, "They left a soapy film on all my dishes. Was looking at new dishwashers till I realized it was the pods. I returned half a box for a full refund and got Cascade." The dissatisfaction with these pods has led many to switch back to other brands.

While Costco remains a favorite shopping destination for many, these items serve as a reminder that not all products are created equal. It’s always wise to do a bit of research and perhaps think twice before adding these potentially overrated items to your cart.
