Piers Morgan is notoriously vocal over his dislike of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – and he predictably didn’t hold back after it was confirmed that they would be taking a trip to Nigeria later this month.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have reportedly been invited by the Nigerian government, and the trip will take place after Prince Harry has visited the U.K. for the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games at St Paul’s Cathedral. The country reportedly wants to be in the running to host the Invictus Games in the future. According to Vanity Fair, the country’s acting director of defense information, Tukur Gusau, said in a statement: “The Defense Headquarters has expressed its honor and delight for the acceptance of the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, and his wife, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan, to visit Nigeria in May 2024. The visit is to consolidate Nigeria’s strong hold at the game and the possibility of hosting the event in later years.”

This statement – in particular, the fact that Prince Harry and Meghan were referred to as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex – didn’t sit right with the former Good Morning Britain host; and he didn’t hesitate to voice his opinions on social media.

Piers Morgan Slams Prince Harry And Meghan Markle's Upcoming Nigeria Trip

Morgan made his opinions known on Vanity Fair's X post about the couple's upcoming Nigeria trip. The pub wrote: "Meghan Markle will join Prince Harry on a trip to Nigeria this May, the couple's first official international tour since leaving their royal roles in 2020."

The 59-year-old Piers Morgan Uncensored host replied: "There's nothing 'official' about it – they're not working royals. This is precisely why their titles must be stripped."

Morgan is technically correct, as the trip won't be an official royal engagement. The couple lost their right to partake in official royal engagements since stepping down as senior royals in 2020. PR expert Mayah Riaz told The Mirror: "This will be different to a traditional royal trip and they will want it to be so. There will be no press on the plane with them nor will they be greeted with welcoming ceremonies such as military honours or flag-raising ceremonies, which are often usual with royal visits."

Internet Reactions

Interestingly, social media was divided, with some users defending the couple, and others siding with the former Britain's Got Talent judge. "They're not going as royals. And they are entitled to go where they are invited," commented one X user, seemingly in Prince Harry and Meghan's defense. "Read the room, my man. I have no interest in the royals, but he was born with his title. And simply by virtue of his mother and what he went through, losing her, tends to make me want him to just be happy," replied one X user, as another asked: "Piers I like you, I really do but bro, when are you gonna give it a rest? Please."

Another said: "Just out of curiosity why must the titles be stripped? I mean apart from having something to talk about, how does it actually bother us on a daily basis?" Another X user called Piers "an angry, bitter old man," which another echoed, adding: "Man hacks phones but hates woman that scorned him. Jealousy is pathetic mate just give it up!"

"Unless you're getting paid to tweet this poison about Meghan and Harry all the time, I don't see why you would even bother with anything they do in their lives. So who is paying you to be so nasty? If not, then why are you not in therapy?" questioned another X user. "Why so angry?" asked another user in agreement.

"It's wild that the RF is letting this go on? Really disappointing," said another X user who seemed to take Morgan's side. "Yes, make it happen!" exclaimed another in agreement that their titles should be taken away. "Strip the [expletive] titles already. What are they waiting for?" the same user continued. "And they're using HRH again. Palace should issue a cease & desist order," another X user wrote.

"Harry and Meghan DO NOT represent us! Titles must be stripped asap. This is getting ridiculous," another user who seemed to take Morgan's side wrote. "Absolutely correct," wrote another, adding: "The @RoyalFamily needs to make it crystal clear that these two pretenders no longer represent, nor are they associated with, the RF. This is a travesty, and is also a confusing mess. What if Nigeria really thinks they have influence?"
