Piers Morgan never has anything nice to say about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – and now he has even taken to trashing the couple over the name they gave to their newborn daughter.
The couple has named their one-week-old daughter Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to be called ‘Lili’ for short. The name comes from two important women in Harry’s life, as the ‘Lilibet’ is the Queen’s family nickname.
And though it is a common tradition for people to name their babies after parents and grandparents, Piers Morgan had some nasty comments to make.
"It's quite ironic, isn't it," Morgan on Australia's 'Today' televison show. "You have this couple who have been trashing the royal family and the monarchy for the last few weeks and they have named the baby after the Queen, who is, of course, the head of the royal family and the monarchy."
He added, "Maybe it's their way of reaching out — as the Americans say — to the royals and wanting some kind of end to this on-running feud."
Though Morgan tends to always see the worst in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the couple has never spoken a word of ill intention towards their family specifically - only the institution of the monarchy.
Even during the couple's explosive Oprah interview discussing the obstacles they faced in the royal family, both stressed the fact that they cared for the members of their family. Prince Harry even said that he frequently spoke with his grandmother on the phone during the pandemjic.
Piers Morgan has been notorious for trashing Meghan Markle. The TV host was even fired from "Good Morning Britain" - a job he had held for six years - after he said that he "didn't believe a word" Markle had said about her mental health struggles during the Oprah intervew.
Those who know Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have said that the couple had no ulterior motives in picking their daughter's name. Harry's friends even said that the duke had asked for his grandmother's blessing before naming the baby Lilibet.
"He loves and respects his grandmother. For Harry these are two very important and meaningful names," a source told Vanity Fair.
